Known for her luscious voice “melting all hearts” (The Chicago Tribune), Colombian-American Soprano Vanessa Vasquez was scheduled to make her McCaw Hall debut in our 2020 production of La bohème. Instead, she will make her Seattle Opera debut in our Songs of Summer series. Ms. Vasquez treats audiences to a special program entitled Sweet Dreams: A Midnight Recital of Night and Cradle Songs.
Curated to soothe our collective stress, the program includes art songs by Richard Strauss, Franz Schubert, Manuel de Falla, Gabriel Fauré, and Antonín Dvořák, plus a traditional American lullaby and “Ave Maria” from Verdi’s Otello.
With each recital, Seattle Opera is highlighting a partner organization making an impact in our communities. This time it’s Bloodworks Northwest, an independent nonprofit in Seattle serving more than 90 local hospitals. Right now during COVID-19, the life-saving work of Bloodworks Northwest is more important than ever. Learn more and sign up for the blood drive happening August 18 through 27 at at Tagney Jones Hall.
If you are enjoying our digital opera offerings, please make a donation to support the artists and staff that are collaborating to bring you opera in new ways.
Special thanks to our 2020/21 Season sponsors Barbara Stephanus and James and Sherry Raisbeck.
