The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs

Il trovatore

Jan. 12, 13, 16, 19, 20, 23, 25, & 26, 2019

By Giuseppe Verdi

Packed with more hit songs than any opera but Carmen, Verdi’s hot-blooded melodrama thrills with swift action, intense pathos, and multiple moments where singers shine. During a time of civil war, a mother’s love clashes with a dark secret from her past as two rival soldiers feud for the favor of a noblewoman with a secret of her own. The abundance of masterful music had audiences shouting “Viva Verdi!” after its premiere. Our grand presentation of Verdi’s masterpiece fills McCaw Hall with more than 75 cast members, imposing sets and elaborate period costumes for an unforgettable night at the opera.

Totally user-friendly.”

—LA Times

Music by Mason Bates
Libretto by Mark Campbell

Following the world premiere’s “rapturous reception” (The Washington Post), the Grammy-nominated smash hit makes its West Coast debut at McCaw Hall! Go behind the headlines for a “visually stunning” (ABQ Journal) examination of a flawed and hugely influential figure. When faced with his mortality, the visionary Apple co-founder revisits 18 of his most important memories in search of a perfect moment to take with him.

Mason Bates’ dazzling score features a glossy mix of lyrical and rhythmic music, combining traditional and electronic instrumentation. Mark Campbell’s compelling, funny, and touching libretto draws on universal themes of human communication and connection in its respectful yet unflinching depiction of Jobs’ innovative ideas and troublesome truths.

May 4, 5, 8, 11, 12, 15, 17, 18, & 19, 2019

By Georges Bizet

Bizet’s thrilling story of deadly obsession seduces with an amazing array of instantly recognizable melodies and masterful arias beloved across the globe. An ordinary soldier becomes mesmerized by a beguiling factory girl with a plan. Will either of them foresee the tragic ending of their high-stakes game? Don’t miss this grand new production featuring lavish scenery, traditional costumes, and some of the most famous classical music ever written.

Renowned British director Paul Curran has garnered high praise on both sides of the Atlantic. He teams with frequent collaborator Gary McCann to create a grand theatrical arena (three different sets!) inhabited by a multitude of beautifully dressed factory girls, townsfolk, smugglers, soldiers, and toreadors.
