Così fan tutte

Beatrice & Benedict

Così fan tutte

Jan. 13-27, 2018

By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Let the games begin! Love has many faces when two buddies don disguises to test the faithfulness of their fiancées. Will the women fall for their "new" suitors as the opera's title ("All women do it") suggests? And if they do, who is really to blame? Blending bawdy humor and keen insight, the charming Così features some of the sweetest and most ravishing music Mozart ever wrote.

Jonathan Miller’s acclaimed contemporary production “may be the funniest and most dramatically successful show Seattle Opera has ever staged.” –The Seattle Times

Beatrice & Benedict

Feb. 24-Mar. 10, 2018

By Hector Berlioz
An operatic adaptation of Shakespeare's comedy Much Ado About Nothing

"It’s a beautiful story in an epic setting at a time when the world needs a bittersweet romance and joy." –John Langs, Stage Director

Beatrice and Benedict are both firmly committed to being single. And the idea that they might fall in love with one another? Laughable! Until, by "chance," Benedict overhears a friend say that Beatrice really loves him. Beatrice hears a rumor that Benedict feels the same. The seed planted, love blooms wild. Berlioz puts music to the logic-defying, wholly intoxicating experience of falling in love.

"The creative combination of Seattle Symphony Orchestra Maestro Ludovic Morlot and ACT Theatre Artistic Director John Langs will bring a freshness to Berlioz's unique opera." –Aidan Lang, Seattle Opera General Director

May 5-19, 2018

By Giuseppe Verdi

"The production of the year." –The Stranger

A profoundly personal love story told on a grand scale, Aida showcases Verdi's power to translate human emotions into magnificent music. The high-stakes love triangle between a prisoner of war, a conflicted military commander, and a formidable princess unfolds amid glorious spectacle and rousing choruses—including the famous Triumphal March.

Director Francesca Zambello's "spectacular" (Opera Warhorses) new-to-Seattle production features choreography by contemporary dance leader Jessica Lang, as well as designs by "art world superstar" (San Francisco Chronicle) RETNA, who cites the structure of Egyptian hieroglyphs as the basis for his striking visuals.
