TIPS AND TRICKS FOR LIVE DRAG PERFORMANCES.
We can't wait to welcome guests to the Opera Center for our BRAVO! Queens of the Night Halloween Party! For all drag show attendees, whether it is your first live show or you have been going for years—here are some helpful tips and reminders for this genre of live, interactive performance.
1. TIP YOUR QUEENS! SUPPORT LOCAL ARTISTS.
Bring cash with you! It’s customary to give the queens cash tips throughout the performance. Place the money in your hand and extend your arm toward the queen, and she will approach you to take it when she’s ready. Anywhere from single bills to $5’s and above make for great tips. Seattle Center ATMs are located inside the Seattle Center Armory just inside the southeast entry of the Food and Event Hall, on the grounds at the Harrison Street entrance, at the base of the Seattle Center Monorail ramp, and to the right of the entrance to Exhibition Hall. You can also check out ATMs near the Opera Center.
2. BE AN ACTIVE AUDIENCE MEMBER.
During the high energy performance, you will find yourself clapping, dancing, cheering, singing along, and turning your own energy level up a few notches. Just don’t try to compete with the performing queens for the spotlight!
3. RESPECT THE PERFORMANCE SPACE.
While the queens are performing, never step into the performance area unless invited. The dancefloor will be open for you to boogie shortly after the show finishes up!
4. DON’T TOUCH THE PERFORMERS.
The fun-filled atmosphere of a drag show is infectious, but in all your revelry do not touch the performer’s clothing or body at any point without their consent. Photo-ops included! Always be respectful of others’ personal space.
5. REMEMBER TO HONOR QUEER SPACES.
Drag shows transform any venue where they are performed in into a queer safe space, where it is important to respect the lived experiences of trans, queer, and non-binary folks. Celebrate the love and joy of queer expression and leave any judgment or labels at the door.
6. MAKE SURE TO HAVE FUN!
Drag performance has the unique power to deconstruct notions of gender, class, and sexuality to create a self-expressive and freeing environment. Whatever your self-expression is, we invite you to unwind, have a blast, and let yourself be celebrated at our drag show. If you want to, follow the queens on social media during the show!
