The Stories We Sing: How Opera, Operetta, and Musical Theatre Shape Our Culture

Friday, October 17, 2025 at 7:00 PM

The Opera Center | 363 Mercer Street

Free with RSVP requested

Join us for a lively conversation with the leaders of Seattle’s two major “singing stages,” Seattle Opera and The 5th Avenue Theatre, about the role that opera, operetta, and musical theatre plays in our society. James Robinson, General & Artistic Director of Seattle Opera, and Bill Berry, Executive Director of The 5th, will be joined onstage by Dr. Anne Searcy of the University of Washington School of Music. Together they will explore what these art forms share, what makes them distinct, and what they can learn from each other.

Seattle Opera donors at the Supporter ($500+) level and above: you are invited to a post-talk reception immediately following the event. Simply RSVP for the Opera Talk to be added to the reception list. Refreshments will be provided.
