Mary Elizabeth Williams—a Seattle favorite from the start of her career as a Seattle Opera Young Artist—offers selections from Berlioz’s Les Troyens, Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, and Puccini’s Turandot in this recital. Memorable McCaw Hall moments include her command performance as Queen Elizabeth in Mary Stuart (2016), a thrilling "Vissi d’arte" performance from the 2015 Tosca, as well as a haunting rendition of “My Man’s Gone Now” from Porgy and Bess (2011). A crowd-pleaser on any stage, she is noted for her “passionate intensity and beautifully produced power” (The Seattle Times).
The partner organization for this recital is Seattle JazzED ("Jazz Ed"), a music school sharing the art of jazz with students of all ages. Seattle JazzED serves over 1,000 students from more than 100 different schools around the Seattle area. Over 40 percent of JazzEd students receive tuition support and/or a free loaner instrument. Seattle Opera had the honor of partnering with Seattle JazzED for Charlie Parker's Yardbird, when they provided live music in the lobby at McCaw Hall.
