performances and a Supply drive
Seattle Opera remains resolute in service to our community, even throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This summer, we are launching Community Serenades, live vocal performances we hope bring healing to some of our most vulnerable neighbors, including isolated senior adults and people experiencing homelessness.
We are focused on communities most in need and are delighted to continue our partnership with Path with Art to present recitals, kicking off the series at Plymouth Housing on July 23 with a performance by soprano Tess Altiveros and pianist Elisabeth Ellis. Additionally, we are collaborating with retirement communities to entertain older citizens deeply impacted by social isolation due to the pandemic. We hope to extend performances to health care professionals and Seattle-area neighborhoods in the future, as well.
The performances will feature a singer and pianist, maintaining recommended physical distance and with safety protocols, while residents listen from the safety of their homes/rooms or in large outdoor spaces.
Update 7/17/2020: Due to the Govenor's new orders limiting live performances indoors or outdoors, our first Community Serenade at Plymouth Housing will be rescheduled. However, the supply drive July 21 and July 22 will continue as planned.
What’s more, our commitment doesn’t end with a final note sung, Seattle Opera is spearheading efforts to meet community needs like food and hygiene supplies with a supply drive Tuesday July 21 and Wednesday, July 22 from 10AM to 1 PM. We look to our Seattle Opera community to help support this need with drop-offs or deliveries of supplies at the Opera Center.
