Seattle Opera Wins Teen Tix Award

Seattle Opera was among ten winners of a Teen Tix “Teeny” award in May. The company won the “Thank Goodness You Are With Teen Tix” award, a statement from the members of Teen Tix that Seattle Opera is the organization to which they most appreciate having access.

The first-ever Teen Tix award ceremony was held May 18 at the Vera Project, an all-ages music venue on the Seattle Center campus. Teen Tix members created the awards categories and voted for the winners through an online survey. Awards included the “Best Seats in the House” award, won by Seattle Repertory Theatre; the “Most Popular Venue” and “Best Box Office Experience” awards, given to Seattle Children’s Theatre; and the “Most Popular Newbie” award, which went to Seattle Symphony.

Teen Tix is a five-year-old program that allows teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 to purchase $5 day-of-show tickets to select dance, theater, music, film, and visual arts events. The group has over 25,000 registered members. In addition to Seattle Opera, other participating organizations include the Intiman Theatre, Northwest Film Forum, Seattle Art Museum, and Pacific Northwest Ballet, among others.

Seattle Opera has been participating in Teen Tix since its inception. “Creating opportunities for young people to attend opera is part of what we do every day through our programs in the schools and with young professionals,” said Associate Director of Marketing Kristina Murti. “The Teen Tix program is a natural extension of our audience development efforts.”
