Speight Jenkins in the Major Leagues

Speight Jenkins, Seattle Opera’s general director and a die-hard Mariners fan, has been called up to the Major Leagues. Jenkins will throw the ceremonial first pitch before the September 29 Mariners game against the Oakland Athletics. Tenor Dimitri Pittas, who will be making his Seattle Opera debut in La Traviata in October, will sing the national anthem that night.

A right-hander from Dallas, Texas, Jenkins has led the Seattle Opera—one of the strongest major league teams in the opera world—for 26 years. He combines passion, opera savvy, and charisma to get the very best out of his players and to put on a great show. His first love is opera, but he’s always liked baseball—so when the Mariners called him up, he was happy to rise to the challenge.

Join Speight—and his rocket arm—at the game on September 29 for an evening of opera and baseball. Discounted tickets to Seattle Opera Night at the Mariners are available for Seattle Opera subscribers, board, staff, and friends at www.mlb.com/sea/ticketing/special_group.jsp?group=opera.
