Seattle Opera is one step closer to finding its host for “Confessions of a First-Time Operagoer.” The company announced its five finalists on Monday, one of whom will win the opportunity to star in a documentary about his or her first Ring experience.
The company received 49 applications over the past several weeks. Applicants either submitted videos to the company—through Facebook or by mail—or attended a live casting call held on May 15. The five finalists are Cassidy Quinn Brettler, 19; Colton Michael Carothers, 24; Jeff Powell, 27; Amy Tower, 19; and Howard Wu, 30.
The finalists are all arts-lovers who are relatively new to opera and have had very little exposure to Wagner’s four-opera epic. Each contestant is eager to learn about the Ring, and to share his or her experiences with the public through blogging, Facebook, Twitter, and the documentary video. The finalists were selected by Seattle Opera and its project partner, Reel Grrls, but the final selection of a host is up to the public. The videos are posted on the Seattle Opera website
