“Confessions” Filming Begins

Filming is now underway for Seattle Opera’s reality-style video, “Confessions of a First-Time Operagoer.” Cassidy Quinn Brettler, 19, was selected in June from among 49 applicants to host the program. During the months leading up to opening night of Wagner’s Ring des Nibelungen, Brettler will attend rehearsals and backstage tours, meet artists, and talk with die-hard Ring fans, sharing her “confessions” along the way.

Brettler spent her first filming session introducing viewers to her life. One of the highlights of the day was bringing the crew along for her regular Monday-night dinners with friends at Varlamos Pizzeria in Laurelhurst. Brettler talks about the experience on Seattle Opera’s blog, the first of many entries throughout the summer. In addition to her regular blog posts, the public can follow Brettler during the coming months on her Facebook page and her Twitter account.

This week Brettler is spending time at Seattle Opera’s rehearsal space, where her activities include taking a “swim” during one of the Rhine Daughters’ flying rehearsals. In the following weeks, she will watch staging rehearsals, take backstage tours, attend orchestra run-throughs, learn about the history of the production, and of course, attend performances of the Ring.
