Seattle Opera Announces 2008/09 Young Artists

August 28, 2008, Seattle—Seattle Opera today announced the ten young artists selected to participate in its 2008/09 Young Artists Program. This fall, the singers will perform
Tatyana’s Letter : Lyrical Scenes from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Ongein in communities across Washington. In the spring they will stage a full production of Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The Young Artists chosen for the 2008/09 program are Eugene Chan, Thomas Forde, Margaret Gawrysiak, Megan Hart, Michael Krzankowski, Alex Mansoori, Elizabeth Pojanowski, Vira Slywotzky, Michelle Trovato, and Bray Wilkins. Four artists—Eugene Chan, Margaret Gawrysiak, Megan Hart, and Elizabeth Pojanowski—are returning for their second season with the Young Artists Program. The other six singers are participating for the first time.

In November, the Young Artists will visit venues in Wenatchee, Mount Vernon, Friday Harbor, Eastsound, Auburn, and Twisp, performing Tatyana’s Letter : Lyrical Scenes from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. This abridged production cuts to the chase, focusing on the musical highlights from Tchaikovsky’s timeless opera. Tickets for the touring production are available through each venue.

In the spring, the Young Artists will perform a fully-staged production of Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a shimmering and magical setting of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy. Tickets for the spring production are already available to Seattle Opera subscribers. An online pre-sale will begin August 30, 3008, for the general public, followed by phone and in-person ticket office sales on September 2, 2008.
