Opera Goes to School

Seattle Opera is heading back in elementary schools this week with Opera Goes to School. This educational program gets students involved in creating an opera—they sing, dance, play instruments, and create costumes—and the week-long residency culminates in a performance for students, teachers, and their families.
In Memoriam: Perry Lorenzo
Perry Lorenzo, an internationally acclaimed speaker on opera and Director of Education at Seattle Opera for almost twenty years, passed away on December 19. Dedicated to introducing everyone to opera, Lorenzo took a fledgling Education program at Seattle Opera and expanded it exponentially, drawing to him a devoted core of speakers and discussing opera in many forums.
Speight Jenkins on the Met Quiz

Speight Jenkins will join the panel of the Metropolitan Opera quiz during the Met broadcast of Puccini’s Trittico on Saturday, December 12.
Amelia Libretto On Sale Now

The Amelia libretto is available exclusively at McCaw Hall’s gift shop, Amusements, during the run of La Traviata. The $14-book provides an early glimpse at the lyrics and stage directions of this new American opera.
Speight Jenkins in the Major League

Speight Jenkins, Seattle Opera’s general director and a die-hard Mariners fan, has been called up to the Major Leagues. Jenkins will throw the ceremonial first pitch before the September 29 Mariners game against the Oakland Athletics.
“Confessions” Release Party September 26
Audiences followed Cassidy Quinn Brettler, the host of “Confessions of a First-Time Operagoer,” as she learned about and attended a production of the Ring cycle this summer. Now they can see the finished product at a release party on Sept 26.
