From the play by Eugene ONeill

A gripping psychological thriller, Mourning Becomes Electra has been newly revised for Seattle Opera’s premiere season in Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. A post Civil War story of deceit, jealousy, and manipulation, this contemporary American opera tells the tragic story of family relationships gone awry. Christine Mannon, the matriarch of the family, betrays her marriage by taking a lover who is secretly admired by her daughter, Lavinia. Christine’s infidelity leads to a calculated, murderous, and suicidal conclusion, shattering the lives and futures of all around her.
