Yves Abel is the principal guest conductor of Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he has conducted new productions of Bizet's Carmen, d'Albert's Tiefland, Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra,and Donizetti's Don Pasquale, as well as Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro, Verdi’s Traviata, Orff's Carmina Burana, Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, and numerous concerts. At Seattle Opera, Abel has conducted Rossini’s Cenerentola, Johann Strauss Jr.’s Fledermaus, Barber’s Vanessa, and Jake Heggie’s End of the Affair. Abel appears frequently with some of the world’s great opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra National de Paris, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Carlo di Napoli, and Netherlands Opera. He is also a regular guest at the Vienna State Opera, where he recently conducted a new production of Donizetti's Fille du régiment,as well as Verdi's Ballo in maschera, Puccini's Madama Butterfly, and Simon Boccanegra, among others. Future engagements include several important debuts at Royal Opera Covent Garden, the New National Theatre of Tokyo, Munich's Staatsoper, and Grand Théâtre de Genève. He is the founder of Opéra Français de New York, which focuses on French opera. He was recently awarded the insignia of the chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
