Former Seattle Opera Young Artist Ted Schmitz makes his mainstage company debut as Don Basilio/Don Curzio in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro. As a Young Artist, Schmitz performed Peter Quint in Britten’s Turn of the Screw and Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and he returned to the program as a guest artist to sing Caius in Verdi’s Falstaff and Don Basilio/Don Curzio. Schmitz has participated in young artist programs at Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Central City Opera, and the Britten-Pears Programme. Recent roles have included Ferrando in Così fan tutte at Castleward Opera, Hotel Porter in Britten's Death in Venice at the Aldeburgh and Bregenz Festivals, and David in Wagner’s Meistersinger von Nürnberg at Mastersingers Company in London. Upcoming engagements include Aschenbach in Death in Venice at Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
