Richard Bernstein has performed his signature role of Figaro in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro in Philadelphia, San Diego, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Vancouver, as well as at the Metropolitan Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others. Bernstein’s performances at the Met have included Zuniga in Bizet’s Carmen, Zaretsky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Orville Mason in Tobias Picker’s American Tragedy, Colline in Puccini’s Bohème, and Angelotti in Puccini’s Tosca. He has sung Marco in William Bolcom’s View from the Bridge at Washington National Opera, Alidoro in Rossini’s Cenerentola and Colline at Opera Company of Philadelphia, Frank Maurrant in Weill’s Street Scene at Chautauqua Opera, Laurent in Tobias Picker’s Thérèse Raquin at Dallas Opera, Sancho Panza in Massenet’s Don Quixote at the KlangBogen Festival in Vienna, and Mustafà in Rossini’s Italiana in Algeri at Opera Pacific. He has performed Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in Los Angeles and Philadelphia, and at Théâtre du Capitole and the Savonlinna Festival. Bernstein’s upcoming roles at the Met include Pietro in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra. He made his Seattle Opera debut as Figaro in 1997, and returns this season as Sancho Panza in Don Quichotte.
