Raymond Very makes his Seattle Opera debut as Richard Smythe in Heggie’s End of the Affair. At the San Francisco Opera, Very has sung Tamino in Mozart’s Zauberflöte, Kudryash in Janacek’s Katya Kabanova, and Tom Rakewell in Stravinsky’s Rake’s Progress. He has sung Cassio in Verdi’s Otello and Mateo in Richard Strauss’s Arabella at the Metropolitan Opera as well as Don José in Bizet’s Carmen and Mateo at Houston Grand Opera. In Europe, his roles include Cassio, Mateo, and Jenik in Smetana’s Verkaufte Braut at Bayerische Staatsoper, and Mateo at Royal Opera Covent Garden. Very will return to the Met to sing Christian in Alfano’s Cyrano de Bergerac.
