Philip Cutlip’s recent performances include the title role in Philip Glass’s Orphée at Portland Opera, Zurga in Bizet’s Pêcheurs de perles at Minnesota Opera, and Valentin in Gounod’s Faust with Washington Concert Opera. Upcoming he sings Ariodate in Handel’s Serse with Houston Grand Opera, Guglielmo in Mozart’s Così fan tutte with Jacksonville Opera Theatre, and Tarquinius in Britten’s Rape of Lucretia with Toledo Opera. Cutlip has been seen at Seattle Opera as Harlequin in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, Maurice in Jake Heggie’s End of the Affair, and Marcello in Puccini’s Bohème. He will return to the company in 2011 as Papageno in Mozart’s Magic Flute, a role he has previously sung at New York City Opera and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Other roles include Donald in Britten’s Billy Budd in Houston, Rodrigo in Verdi’s Don Carlo in Honolulu, Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly in Phoenix, and Garibaldo in Handel’s Rodelinda and Dancaïre in Bizet’s Carmen in Dallas. He has sung Mathieu in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier, a Mandarin in Puccini’s Turandot, and Achilles in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto at Gran Teatre del Liceu, and Dunois in Tchaikovsky’s Orleanskaya Deva with San Francisco Opera.
