Bio
Nicola Bowie danced professionally for the English National Ballet. From 1988 to 2001, she was the head of movement for English National Opera, where she choreographed more than 60 productions. In Europe, Bowie has choreographed or directed productions for Scottish Opera, Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos, Madrid Mozart Festival, and others. She choreographed the 2003 production of Johann Strauss Jr.’s Fledermaus for the Glyndebourne Festival Opera broadcast by the BBC and later released on DVD. In the United States, Bowie has directed or choreographed productions for Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington Opera, Florida Grand Opera, New York City Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Portland Opera, and others. In 2004, she served as movement director for San Francisco Opera’s Adler Program and as associate director and choreographer for Piazzolla’s Maria de Buenos Aires at Long Beach Opera. Bowie was the movement director for Handel’s Imeneo at Glimmerglass Opera.
