Miriam Murphy studied at Dublin’s DIT College of Music and London’s Royal Academy of Music, where she won the Opera Gold Medal and the Dame Eva Turner award, and was recently named a Fellow for her artistic achievements. Murphy has appeared as Verdi’s Lady Macbeth at Royal Opera Covent Garden and Opera Holland Park, and has sung with Welsh National Opera, Opera North, and the Glyndebourne Festival. Recent performances include the title role in Puccini’s Turandot in Bilbao and the Overseer in Richard Strauss’s Elektra at Covent Garden. A winner of Seattle Opera’s inaugural International Wagner Competition, Murphy has toured Japan with Opéra National de Paris, and also sang Isolde in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde with the company. Concert appearances have included Verdi’s Requiem at the Barbican, Abigaille in Verdi’s Nabucco at Dublin’s National Concert Hall, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 for London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. She makes her Seattle Opera debut with the 2009 Ring.
