Michael Todd Simpson
Michael Todd Simpson made his Seattle Opera mainstage debut in Offenbach’s Contes d’Hoffmann and returns in 2007 as Marcello in Puccini’s Bohème. While a member of the company’s Young Artists Program, Simpson sang Guglielmo in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, the Count in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro, and the National Anthem at the Seattle Mariners’ 2004 Opening Day. Other credits for this winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council regional auditions include Mozart’s Count Almaviva with Virginia Opera, Paris in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette with Cincinnati Opera, Silvio in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci with Dallas Opera, and Tooley in Richard Rodney Bennett’s Mines of Sulphur with Glimmerglass Opera’s Young American Artists Program (a performance recorded and released by Chandos Records in 2005). Simpson was a recent recipient of the Sara Tucker Study Grant awarded by the Richard Tucker Foundation and the Richard F. Gold Career Grant.
