Michael Hendrick makes his Seattle Opera debut with Ariadne auf Naxos. Other engagements for Hendrick this season have included a return to New York City Opera for Don José in Bizet’s Carmen and his debut at Asociacion Bilbaína de Amigos de la Opera in Bilbao as Laca in Janacek’s Jenufa. This Georgia tenor has performed with many U.S. opera companies. For Lyric Opera of Chicago, he has sung Tamino in Mozart’s Zauberflöte, Chekalinsky in Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades, and the title role of Parsifal (for Acts II and III in a last-minute situation). For Santa Fe Opera, he has sung Dr. Caius in Verdi’s Falstaff and the Schoolmaster/Dean of Theology in the U.S. premiere of Ingvar Lidholm’s Dream Play. His performances at Washington Opera as Lennie (a role he has also sung with Arizona Opera and Utah Opera) won him the Washington Opera Guild’s 2001 Artist of the Year award. At the 2003 Bard Festival, he sang the leading role of Zivny in the U.S. stage premiere of Janacek’s Osud. Other roles for Hendrick include Levko in Rimsky-Korsakov’s May Night, Sam Polk in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, and Rodolfo in Puccini’s Bohème.
