Luretta Bybee made her Seattle Opera debut singing three characters in Prokofiev’s War and Peace in 1990. Her other roles for the company have included Mistress Quickly in Verdi’s Falstaff, the title role in Bizet’s Carmen, Paula in Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas, Mary in Wagner’s Fliegende Holländer, and Klytämnestra in Richard Strauss’s Elektra. Bybee has sung the Rossini roles of Isabella in L’italiana in Algeri at New York City Opera and Oper der Stadt Köln, Isaura in Tancredi at Frankfurt Opera, and Falliero in the U.S. premiere of Bianca e Falliero at Florida Grand Opera. Her other roles include Carmen at New York City Opera, Lucretia in Britten’s Rape of Lucretia in Montréal, Herodias in Richard Strauss’s Salome at Cleveland and Orlando operas, and Fricka in Wager’s Walküre in New Orleans. She returns to Seattle in 2010 in the world premiere of Daron Aric Hagen’s Amelia.
