German soprano Irmgard Vilsmaier was a member of the Opera Studio of Bayerischen Staatsoper from 1994 to 1996. Vilsmaier sang Waltraute (Walküre) and the Second Norn in Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayreuth Festival in 2003 and 2004. She has sung the Third Norn and Gutrune in Götterdämmerung in Amsterdam, the Third Norn and Gerhilde in Munich, and Venus in Tannhäuser in Dresden. Recent roles include the Witch in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel at Volksoper Vienna, Brünnhilde in Wagner’s Walküre at Trier Theatre, and Sieglinde in Die Walküre at Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, Isolde in Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde at Estonian Opera in Tallin, Marianne in Strauss's Rosenkavalier in Munich, and Gertrud in Hansel and Gretel at the Glyndebourne Festival. Upcoming performances include Marianne in Rosenkavalier at Baden-Baden, Paris, and Munich; Gertrud in Hansel and Gretel in London and Dresden; Ariadne in Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos in Dresden; Isolde in Tallin; Kundry in Wagner's Parsifal in Budapest; and Goneril in Reimann's Lear in Berlin. She makes her Seattle Opera debut as Chrysothemis in Richard Strauss’s Elektra.
