Greer Grimsley made his Seattle Opera debut in 1994 as Telramund in Lohengrin, a role he reprised with the company in 2004. His Wagner roles here have included Wotan/The Wanderer (2005/06 Artist of the Year), Gunther, and Donner in Der Ring des Nibelungen, Amfortas in Parsifal, Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde, and the title role in Der Fliegende Holländer, and he has also sung Don Pizarro in Fidelio, Méphistophélès in Gounod’s Faust, and Scarpia in Tosca, among others. Grimsley recently sang Wotan in the Ring at the Metropolitan Opera, and he has performed the full cycle with Teatro La Fenice and Opera Köln and in Cologne and Shanghai. He has also performed Wotan in Die Walküre and Das Rheingold at Deutsche Oper Berlin. At the Metropolitan Opera he has also sung Telramund, Scarpia, Kurwenal, Jochanaan in Richard Strauss’s Salome, and Balstrode in Peter Grimes. He recently performed the High Priest in Samson et Dalila in his hometown of New Orleans. Upcoming engagements include the title role in Der Fliegende Holländer and Wotan in the Ring for the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
