Gary Thor Wedow has conducted Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto and Gluck’s Iphigenia in Tauris at Seattle Opera; he returns next season for Mozart’s Magic Flute. He has conducted many Handel productions, including Serse for New York City Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, and Wolf Trap Opera; Rinaldo for Berkshire Opera; and Alcina and Ariodante for Toronto’s Opera in Concert. Wedow is the former associate conductor of Boston’s Handel & Haydn Society. At New York City Opera he has conducted Bizet’s Carmen, Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Le nozze di Figaro, and Sullivan’s Patience. Other credits include Monteverdi’s Ritorno d’Ulisse in patria at Wolf Trap Opera, Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance at Glimmerglass Opera, Donizetti’s Elisir d’amore and Puccini’s Bohème at Chautauqua Opera, Monteverdi’s Incoronazione di Poppea at Pittsburgh Opera and Juilliard Opera Center, and the North American premiere of Sartorio’s Giulio Cesare at Canadian Opera Company. Wedow conducted the world premiere of Kulesha’s Red Emma for Canadian Opera Company, and has led new works by Tan Dun, Hans Henze, Siegfried Matthus, Jake Heggie, and Tobias Picker. Future engagements include Mozart’s Barber of Seville in Miami and Le nozze di Figaro in Pittsburgh.
