Edlyn de Oliveira
Brazilian soprano Edlyn de Oliveira was born into a family of opera singers and has been surrounded by music all her life. She begins the 2005/06 season by making her Seattle Opera mainstage debut singing Sarah Miles in Heggie’s End of the Affair. Last season, she was a member of Seattle Opera’s Young Artists Program and sang the Countess in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro. She also made her Carnegie Hall debut the same season singing Beethoven’s Mass in C. Another recent role for de Oliveira was Myrtis in Carlisle Floyd’s Cold Sassy Tree with Opera Omaha. She has also performed the role of Love Simpson with Opera Omaha/Heartland Opera’s tour version of Cold Sassy Tree, Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at Rice University, Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Brevard Music Center, and Jennie in the world première of William Luce’s Gabriel’s Daughter with Central City Opera. De Oliveira was a prize-winner at the George London Foundation Competition in 1999 and a semi-finalist at the Placido Domingo’s Operalia Contest.
