Carsten Wittmoser was a finalist in the 2006 International Wagner Competition and returns to Seattle as Ramfis in Verdi’s Aida. This German singer joined the Staatsoper Stuttgart ensemble in 1997 and, three years later, became a member of the opera ensemble of the Theatre in Linz. Since then he has been a company member of Freiburg Opera and Hamburgische Staatsoper. The many roles in his repertoire include Don Alfonso in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Bartolo in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro, Sarastro in Mozart’s Zauberflöte, Raimondo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, the Hermit in Weber’s Freischütz, Sparafucile in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Ramfis and the King in Verdi’s Aida, Banquo in Verdi’s Macbeth, the Landgraf in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, the Doctor in Berg’s Wozzeck, and Vodnik in Dvorak’s Rusalka. Wittmoser has sung Fafner in Wagner’s Rheingold at the Bruckner Festival in Linz and King Marke in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde in a concert performance at Volkstheater Rostock. Wittmoser has also appeared at the Gergiev-Festival in Rotterdam, the Orff Summer Festival in Andechs, and with Vienna Volksoper and Bayerische Staatsoper.
