Brian Kontes

Brian Kontes makes his Seattle Opera debut as Leporello in 2007. Kontes, a Pennsylvania native, made his professional debut in 1998 as Elder McLean in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah at the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh. He has sung with both the Opera Company of Philadelphia and the Opera Theater of Philadelphia, Opera in the Heights, and Houston Grand Opera. Kontes spent several summer seasons with the Opera Theater of St. Louis, where his roles included Palemon in Massenet’s Thais, which he also sang for his Kentucky Opera debut. In concert, Kontes has appeared with Mid-America Productions at Carnegie Hall, with Charlotte Symphony in the role of Don Fernando in Beethoven’s Fidelio. Other roles include the doctor in Verdi’s Traviata for Opera Colorado, Colline in Puccini’s Boheme for Piedmont Opera, and, in 2007, the Bonze in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly for Nashville Opera.
