Arnold Rawls makes his Seattle Opera debut as Manrico in Verdi’s Trovatore, a role he recently sang in Indianapolis. Recent roles have included Bacchus in Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos in Indianapolis, Radames in Verdi’s Aida at Opera Omaha, Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca at Florida Grand Opera, and Sam in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah at Opera Pacific. He created the role of Standing Bear in the world premiere of Anthony Davis’s Wakonda’s Dream with Opera Omaha, and has also appeared with Florida Grand Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City,Madison Opera,Arizona Opera, Utah Festival Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago. He has performed Manrico and Radames at the Bregenzer Festspiele in Austria and Riccardo in Verdi's Ballo in maschera with Des Moines Opera. Other roles for Rawls include Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Calaf in Puccini’s Turandot, Alfred in Johann Strauss Jr.’s Fledermaus, Don José in Bizet’s Carmen, Dick Johnson in Puccini’s Fanciulla del West, Turiddù in Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana, and Canio in Leoncavallo's Pagliacci. His upcoming engagements include the title role in Giordano's Andrea Chénier with Bregenzer Festspiele in Austria, the title role in Verdi's Otello with Opera Company of Philadelphia, and Erik in Wagner's Fliegende Holländer with Madison Opera.
