Bio

Annalena Persson has appeared at most of the major opera companies in her native Sweden. Her roles have included Senta in Wagner’s Fliegende Holländer, Isolde in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, and Santuzza in Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana for Royal Swedish Opera; Sieglinde in Wagner’s Walküre, the title role in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Kundry in Wagner’s Parsifal, and Tatyana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin with Gothenburg Opera; and Eva in Wagner’s Meistersinger von Nürnberg with Malmö Symphony Orchestra. Elsewhere she has appeared as Isolde in Basel and Cologne, Bianca in Zemlinsky’s Florentinische Tragödie at the Spoleto Festival, Ortlinde in Die Walküre at Théâtre du Châtelet, and Isolde and Senta at Welsh National Opera. Her concert performances include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Chicago, Gothenburg, and London Symphony Orchestras, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, she sings the title role in Richard Strauss’s Salome at Teatro Real in Madrid, Chrysothemis in Richard Strauss’s Elektra at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, and makes her United States debut as Isolde.
