Bio

German baritone Markus Brück has been a member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2001, and in the 2010/2011 season sang the roles of Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Germont in La traviata, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Count Alamaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, and Marcello in La bohème, among others. In April 2011, he appeared as Gunther in Götterdämmerung at the Hamburg State Opera under the baton of Simone Young, and will perform Mahler’s Das klagende Lied with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in June 2011, under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski. Brück will also be a guest at the 2011 Salzburg Festival, and will soon be seen in the title role of Rigoletto at the Cologne Opera. Brück has sung at the Bayreuth and Bregenz festivals, and guest engagements have led him to the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Semperoper Dresden, Oper Frankfurt, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra National de Paris, the State Operas in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, and Stuttgart, the Volksoper Vienna, and to Istanbul, Seoul, and Tokyo. He regularly appears on the concert stage, and has sung at Konzerthaus Berlin, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin, the Hamburg Philharmonic, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, and at the KlangBogen Festival in Vienna, among others. In the 2009/2010 season, Brück made successful debuts at the Helsinki Opera, as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, and the Cologne Opera as Posa in Don Carlo. He has recorded several CDs, including Mendelssohn’s Elias, Magret Wolf’s Kirisk, and Britten’s War Requiem.
