Bio

Margaret Jane Wray sings Sieglinde’s “Du bist der Lenz” from Die Walküre in 2005, with the Seattle Opera Orchestra conducted by Robert Spano.

Margaret Jane Wray has sung Sieglinde and the Third Norn in Seattle Opera’s past three Ring cycles. Her other performances with the company include Amneris in Verdi’s Aida . At the Metropolitan Opera, Wray has sung Santuzza in Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, Orturd in Wagner’s Lohengrin, Gutrune and Third Norn in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung, and Sieglinde (Die Walküre), a role she has also sung in Austin, Toulouse, and Nice. Wray’s performances overseas include Amneris at Welsh National Opera, Mme. Lidone in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites at Teatro alla Scala, the Countess in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro at Paris Opéra-Bastille, Eva in Wagner’s Meistersinger von Nürnberg at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and Teatro Regio, Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Oper Frankfurt, Chrysothemis in Richard Strauss’s Elektra in Berlin, Elisabeth in Wagner’s Tannhäuser in Toulouse, Leonore in Beethoven’s Fidelio in Catania, and Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello in Nice. Other U.S. credits include Amneris in Verdi’s Aida with the Metropolitan Opera, Senta in Wagner’s Fliegende Holländer with Pittsburgh Opera and Sister Helen Prejean in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking with Cincinnati Opera, and performances with the New York Philharmonic and Boston Symphony. In February, she will sing Wagner’s Walküre with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
