Dennis Petersen makes his Seattle Opera debut as Mime, a role he has previously sung at the Metropolitan Opera and Lyric Opera of Chicago. A graduate of San Francisco Opera's Merola Program, Petersen has returned to the company for over 40 productions in roles such as Incredible in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier, Goro in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, and Monostatos in Mozart’s Zauberflöte. He has been a regular at the Met since 1995 with roles including Bob Boles in Britten’s Peter Grimes and Monostatos. With Lyric Opera of Chicago, Petersen has sung Monostaos, Incredible, and L’Aumonier in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, among many others. He will sing the School Master in Janácek's Cunning Little Vixen this fall in Florence and returns to the Met for roles in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne Auf Naxos and Shostakovich’s Nose. He will also sing Herod in Richard Strauss’s Salome with the Minnesota Opera in April.
