Australian bass Daniel Sumegi has appeared with opera companies worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, LA Opera, Washington National Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and in Paris, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, and Barcelona, among many others. He made his Seattle Opera debut as Daland in Der Fliegende Holländer in 2007 and returned to sing Fafner and Hagen in 2009. Other Wagnerian roles include Hagen in Tokyo, Strasbourg, Cologne, Adelaide, and Buenos Aires; Hunding in San Francisco, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, and Melbourne; Fafner in San Francisco and Sydney; Fasolt in Buenos Aires; Daland in San Diego, Minneapolis, Sydney, and Adelaide; Klingsor in Parsifal in Hamburg, Barcelona, and Adelaide; Landgraf Herrmann in Tannhäuser in Sydney; and Pogner in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Antwerp. He recently performed Escamillo in Carmen in Tokyo, the Bonze in Madama Butterfly at the Met, Orest in Elektra in Perth, Duke Bluebeard in Bluebeard’s Castle in Brisbane and Perth, and Arthur in The Lighthouse in Dallas. Future engagements include Fasolt and Hagen for a new Ring at Opera Australia and Billy Budd at LA Opera.
