Daniel Sumegi sings Hagen’s “Watch Song” from Götterdämmerung in 2009, with the Seattle Opera Orchestra conducted by Robert Spano.

Australian bass Daniel Sumegi has appeared with opera companies worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Paris Opéra, and Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, among many others. He made his Seattle Opera debut as Daland in Wagner’s Fliegende Holländer in 2007. Other recent engagements include Orest in Richard Strauss’s Elektra at Washington National Opera, as well as Hermann in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, Boris in Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, and Sarastro in Mozart’s Zauberflöte for Opera Australia. Other roles include Jochanaan in Richard Strauss’s Salome, Bottom in Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Barak in Richard Strauss’s Frau ohne Schatten at Staatsoper Hamburg; Hagen in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung at Cologne Opera; Klingsor in Wagner’s Parsifal in Barcelona; and the title role of Bloch’s Macbeth in Frankfurt. His 85-role repertoire also includes Baron Ochs in Richard Strauss’s Rosenkavalier, Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca, Claggart in Britten’s Billy Budd, and Méphistophélès in Gounod’s Faust and Berlioz’s Damnation de Faust. In future seasons he sings Daland in Adelaide, Australia, and Hagen in Götterdämmerung in Tokyo and Strasbourg.
