Born in Lancashire, British soprano Alwyn Mellor makes her Seattle Opera debut with these performances. She studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, and began her career at Welsh National Opera, with which she has performed a wide range of roles, most recently the title role in Tosca and Senta in Der Fliegende Holländer. Other recent roles include Adalgisa in Norma, the title role in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Chrysothemis in Elektra. She has sung three seasons at Santa Fe Opera and has also appeared with the Canadian Opera Company, English National Opera, Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Opera North, Royal Opera Covent Garden, and the Opéra de Limoges, among others. Recent and current engagements include Minnie in La fanciulla del West, Brünnhilde in Götterdämmerung, and Sieglinde in Die Walküre at Opera North; Brünnhilde in Götterdämmerung with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra; Brünnhilde in Siegfried at Den Nye Opera and Oper Leipzig; Isolde in Tristan und Isolde at Grange Park Opera and Opéra National de Bordeaux, and Brünnhilde in Die Walküre and Siegfried at the Opéra National de Paris.
