William Saetre

Minnesota-born William Saetre made his Seattle Opera debut as Red Whiskers in Britten’s Billy Budd. His other roles with Seattle Opera include Bardolfo in Verdi’s Falstaff, Spoleta in Puccini’s Tosca, Gamekeeper in Dvořák’s Rusalka and First Jew in R. Strauss’s Salome. In the United States, Saetre has sung with San Francisco, Utah, and Sacramento Operas and with Opera Pacific. Based in Europe since the early 1990s, he appears frequently at the Opéra Paris-Bastille, Frankfurt Opera, Bremen State Theater, and the National Theater in Prague. Recent roles include Dr. Cajus in Verdi’s Falstaff at Kentucky Opera, Baron Puck in Offenbach’s Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein with Opéra Français de New York, and Kudrjash in Janáček’s Kátya Kabanová at Opera Ireland. In the 2003/04 Seattle Opera season, Saetre will sing Remendado in Carmen and Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos.
