This American tenor has strong ties to the Theater Dortmund-Opernhaus in Germany, where his many roles have included the title role in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, Tristan in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, Radamès in Verdi’s Aida, Rodolfo in Puccini’s Bohème, and Bacchus in R. Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos. Paul Lyon appears frequently in Bonn as well, his roles there including Florestan, Don José in Bizet’s Carmen, and Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. Other roles in Europe include Titzikan in Cherubini’s Lodoïska at Teatro alla Scala, Pollione in Bellini’s Norma at Paris Opéra, and the title role of Giordano’s Andrea Chénier in Mannheim. Lyon made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1998, singing the role of Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca; he has subsequently returned to the Met to sing Radamès and Loge in Wagner’s Rheingold. His North American credits include Erik in Wagner’s Fliegende Holländer at Edmonton Opera and Palm Beach Opera, Walther in Wagner’s Meistersinger at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at L’Opéra de Montréal, and Calaf in Puccini’s Turandot at New York City Opera. Fidelio marks Lyon’s Seattle Opera debut.
