Nuccia Focile
Soprano
With a repertoire ranging from Susanna in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro to the title role of Janáãek’s Katya Kabanova, Focile has appeared at many of the world’s leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Royal Opera Covent Garden, Opéra National de Paris, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and Teatro Liceo in Barcelona. She made her debut at La Scala as Oscar in Verdi’s Ballo in maschera in 1985 after winning the Opera Company of Philadelphia-Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition. Focile has returned often to La Scala, singing, among other roles, Drusilla in Monteverdi’s Incoronazione di Poppea, Ilia in Mozart’s Idomeneo, Giulietta in Bellini’s Capuletti ed i Montecchi, and Norina in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale. Focile made her Met debut in 1995 as Mimì in Puccini’s Bohème, a role she has sung with many companies, including the Hamburg State Opera and Royal Opera Covent Garden. Other roles at Covent Garden include Antonia in Offenbach’s Contes d’Hoffmann and Liù in Puccini’s Turandot. She makes her debut at Seattle Opera with Tatyana, a role that she has sung at the Châtelet in Paris.
